Abandoned Dogs Trained for the Hearing Impaired

I read an interesting article online the other day about what a nonprofit organization />
done on the problem of abandoned dogs. This organization, although they can not save all
dogs, has opened a facility in Yokohama, Japan, which will implement a training program for these abandoned dogs to be trained as assistance dogs for the deaf.

Hearing dogs for the deaf are trained to alert deaf people to sounds, inside and outside the home. Sounds like fire smoke alarms and telephones, door knocks, bells, oven timers, alarm clocks, etc. that we take on a daily basis for granted. Without the dog of a person depends on someone else for it.

It has been demonstrated that the dog will increase feelings of hearing deaf security and confidence.

Organizations involved in dog training programs for hearing dogs, looking for these dogs in rescue centers, private homes, breeders and books. They are always looking for new sources in particular with rescue groups.

They look for dogs that have a friendly character, temperament, intelligence, alertness, good and trust. Finally, the dog hearing must be reliable in all types of situations. They also look for people who can foster these dogs potential audience. As the dog these dogs must first be socialized and obedience trained.

Of course a dog can be trained in as little as three months, most dog training programs for a dog sitting closer to a year.

Obedience training and socialization is very extensive.

The dogs are then trained in a normal environment at home to recognize and react to sounds that are in the new home owners. (Mobile and bells are different in every home people). Part of the training will take place in the new home owners with the dog and the trainer.

When training is completed, the new owner and the dog are followed with the trainer to make sure everything goes well.

The new facility in Japan will also train youth on how to become hearing dog trainers.

An estimated 10,000 people with hearing disabilities are waiting for a service dog, so dogs are not only necessary, but the trainers as well. Students follow a course of six months, part of which requires them to work with a dog potential audience of three hours per day.

Once a student completes the course, they can obtain assistance to continue their studies and hopefully find a job in their related field.

Again, not all abandoned dogs are rescued, because the organization is looking for the characteristics mentioned above potential hearing dogs.

The agency hopes that this new facility will raise public awareness of the situation of abandoned dogs and use of hearing dogs.

Hearing dogs have legal access to all public places when accompanied by their masters. They often wear a leash and collar to identify them bright orange. Hearing dogs may accompany their owners in public places such as grocery stores and restaurants because they have the same access rights as a legal guide dog for the blind.

So who is eligible for a hearing dog? Priority is given to applicants over 18 who have at least 65 decibels hearing loss (unaided). Thus the priority is given to a person living alone or with another deaf or hearing impaired person, but a deaf person living with a hearing person will also be discussed. The candidate must also be physically able and willing to heal and continue training the dog.

Yes dogs are truly amazing creatures.
